About the AMC

The Academic Medical Centre is an academic hospital with a level 1 trauma centre. The work environment at the AMC is exciting and challenging where many opportunities are given for career building. The hospital deals with both common interventions and complex rare diseases and speciality surgeries by using the latest techniques and equipment.

As an operating department practitioner you will work in the newly remodelled surgery centre. This centre accommodates a total of 25 operating rooms. From these 18 operating rooms are equipped as endo-suites, 2 surgery rooms are equipped as hybrid operating rooms and 5 are used for day centre patients. In this newly organized surgery centre, you will receive support from colleagues from cleaning, logistics, medical administration and from the technical department.

Academic research is carried out and new treatment methods are developed and applied. In this hospital 17.000 surgeries are carried out on a yearly base. Approximately 160 employees work at the surgery centre. This team consists of colleagues from all ages with an average age between 25-35 years.

The clinical operation centre is divided into three knowledge groups for the disciplines of operating department practitioners with a wide range of emergency patients:
- Cardio surgery, orthopaedics and traumatology
- Neurosurgery, paediatric surgery, general surgery and vascular surgery
- Gynaecology, urology, KNO,MKA, ophthalmology and plastic surgery

About the job

As an operating department practitioner, you will work within a multidisciplinary team. You will work in groups for several specialisms. Together the groups comprise all specializations the hospital has to offer.

The AMC offers you different opportunities for training to keep your knowledge up to date. The refreshing programs offered include the following:
- E-learning tools
- Clinical lessons
- Extra training sessions by medical specialists and ODP’s and companies
- CRM trainings given by colleagues
- Colleagues test reserved procedures

If you have a lot of affinity with a specific specialism, you can progress and become an operating department practitioner with a focus specialism. If you prefer a leadership role then this would be possible in due course.

Regular shifts (9 hour shifts)
Dayshifts: 07.30-17.00 / 09.00-18.30
Late shifts: 13.30-23.00
Nightshifts: 22.30-08.00

When you are fully trained and able to work irregular shifts, you will also receive an irregularity allowance.

  • You have a two-year diploma of higher education or three year degree in operating department practice approved by the Health and Care Professions Council;
  • Applicants must be working in a suitable operating theatre environment, operating department practitioner experience and have employer support to complete assessments in clinical practice, supported by an experienced theatre nurse/ODP mentor;
  • Knowledge of the Dutch language, a minimal level of A2 is required;
  • You are accurate, stress resistant, flexible and you like to work in a team.

We offer:

  • A contract directly with the hospital for 27 to 36 hours per week;
  • A contract for a period of 6 to 12 months with the intention to extend it permanently;
  • A monthly salary in scale 8 (Dutch CAO) depending on work experience- minimum € 2,515 gross per month, maximum € 3,508 gross per month for full-time employment;
  • A labour market allowance (€ 185.87 gross in full-time employment), mobility allowance (€ 250, - gross in full-time employment in the first year instead of irregular allowance service), holiday allowance (8%),year-end bonus (8.3%), irregular allowance service (from second year);
  • 168 hours of holiday with full-time employment;
  • Travel expenses allowance for commuter traffic in accordance with the travel allowance scheme;
  • Participation in collective UMC health insurance (10% discount);
  • Pension is built up with the ABP, the AMC contributes a large part of the premium (70%);
  • Staff association who organizes various (sport) activities and events during the year;
  • Moving costs allowance;
  • Support for arranging housing in an area close to the hospital location for a moderate monthly fee;
  • A Dutch language course.
